Background Highest level of education. Bachelor’s degree Experience. Army, CID; NYPD Narcotics Division
Raised by a schizophrenic mother and an absentee father, Bobby didn’t have the easiest childhood. He was often left to his own devices to care for himself. His awareness of his mother’s illness occurred at an early age and he once said he’s spent his whole life with her slipping away from him.
While in the Army CID, Bobby’s life intersected with that of Declan Gage. Proving to be a powerful mentor, many of the skills he uses as an MCS detective he learned from Gage.
Upon returning to New York, Bobby joined NYPD and was assigned to the Narcotics Division. As a narcotics detective, Bobby was the force behind 3 separate sting operations resulting in 27 arrests and 27 convictions. |
Major Case Within the Major Case Squad, Bobby has been partnered with Alex Eames. At first, Eames found Bobby’s cerebral quirky hands on style to investigation off-putting. She even put in for a transfer during their first year of partnership. Bobby learned of this many years later. He seemingly took it in stride, recognizing that he is an acquired taste.
The chaos of Bobby’s personal life has started to bleed into his professional existence. This happened at an especially inopportune juncture, near the time of the departure of Captain Jimmy Deakins and the arrival of Captain Danny Ross. Captain Deakins specifically requested Bobby for Major Case and consistently demonstrated an understanding of the effectiveness of Goren’s unorthodox investigative approaches. Ross, on the other hand, remains somewhat of a skeptic.

Major Case Bobby’s mother’s illness took its toll, resulting in Bobby revealing his temper and exasperation with the job in front of Captain Ross and the squad, leading to Eames having to run interference on her partner’s behalf. The death of his mother did not signal any respite in Goren’s growing friction in the work place. In fact, it continued to escalate this past year with the reappearance of his drug addicted brother Frank and an unauthorized undercover operation into Tates Corrective Facility on behalf of a newly discovered nephew. This operation resulted in Bobby’s temporary suspension from NYPD. Based on his willingness to participate in an authorized undercover operation, under the supervision of Captain Ross, Bobby was reinstated to NYPD.
Most recently, Bobby was on a few weeks of personal leave after being framed by his former mentor for the murder of his brother and Nicole Wallace. The investigation swirling around the death of his brother and Nicole Wallace also brought to light that Mark Ford Brady is Bobby’s biological father. In the course of the investigation he engaged in several heated exchanges with both Captain Ross and Eames. Gage’s goal was to set Bobby free from the chaos of his life. Instead, Gage simply sent Bobby reeling.

View Bobby is highly intelligent and eerily insightful. However, he also can be volatile. He is extremely tactile, often needing first hand experiences to organize his thoughts. He has an explosive temper, which he uses to his advantage in interrogation and manages to successfully suppress in his personal interactions. He’s not very good at articulating his thought processes, so it often seems as if he skips A to Z in making connections within cases.
Bobby loses track of time when on the job. He’s all about the evidence, the patterns of behavior, the details that lead to identifying the perpetrator. Off duty, he has a difficult time slowing his mind down, sleeping. So, he often self medicates through drinking.
